The business of recycling e-waste

BROWNS Plains businesses are joining the movement to reduce e-waste.

They are calling on other businesses, and residents, to take part in a free computer drop-off day on Friday.

Old computers, printers, laptops, CRT monitors and all computer parts should be delivered to Officeworks at Browns Plains between 9am and 2pm to help recycle items of value and reduce landfill waste.

The initiative is sponsored by Buyequip, Officeworks and Westpac Browns Plains as part of an e-waste recycle-a-thon for Keep Australia Beautiful week.

Keep Australia Beautiful chief executive Rick Burnett said that e-waste management was one of the biggest concerns for Queensland’s growing population.

“We must find better methods of resource recovery from everything we throw away,” he said.

“Lack of community awareness is one of the biggest issues facing the current e-waste problem and so initiatives such as the e-waste recycle-a-thon work to inform and educate the general public.”

Officeworks will also have a sausage sizzle with all proceeds going to Keep Australia Beautiful.

Officeworks is at 28 Browns Plains Rd, Browns Plains.
