12m³ Skip Bin

This is the biggest bin Sigma runs, and it is a site bin rather than a driveway bin.

12m³ Skip Bin Hire in Brisbane

General waste in a 12m³ covers Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast.

Most enquiries for this size end up going out as a smaller bin, so the first thing worth sorting out is whether a 12m³ will fit where you want it.

Where a 12m³ will not go

Most of the enquiries we take for this size end up as a different size, so it is worth saying plainly what stops it.

It is 4.5 metres long and the truck has to get close to the spot to lift it in with its arms, with nothing overhead in the way. A standard suburban driveway with a car parked on the street opposite often will not give the truck the room.

It is 1.3 metres high before it is loaded. Carports, verandah roofs, shade sails and low branches all rule it out, and so does anything with a power line running over the drop point.

On the kerb it is a bigger permit conversation. At 4.5 metres it takes about a car length of kerb. You arrange the permit, and we tell you which one you need It takes about 5 working days for a standard suburban footpath, and up to 20 days in the Brisbane CBD and several councils in our corridor have conditions about length and lighting. The service areas page covers them.

It is heavy empty. On a soft verge, fresh turf or a new driveway, a loaded 12m³ leaves a mark. Tell us the surface when you book.

If two of those are a problem, the honest answer is that this is not your bin.

Where a 12m³ will not go

Two 6m³ bins, or one 12m³

This comes up on nearly every 12m³ enquiry and the answer is not always the big one.

One 12m³ wins on price and on labour. One delivery, one pick up, one bin to carry things to. On volume alone it is cheaper than two 6m³ bins, and you are not waiting on a swap in the middle of the job.

Two 6m³ bins win on access and on staging. They fit where the 12m³ does not, they can go in two different spots on a site, and they can be spaced out across a job so you are not paying for a bin to sit there half full. On a heavy load they also win outright, because the tonnage allowance across two bins is what you actually need.

The practical rule: if the load is light and the access is good, take the 12m³. If the access is tight or the load has weight in it, take two smaller bins.

What it suits

Builders and new work. Framing offcuts, sheeting, packaging, formwork. High volume, low density, exactly what this bin is for. Book it as light builders if there is no soil or rubble going in, or builders and mixed heavy if there is.

Commercial and ongoing site work. If a bin needs to live on a site and be swapped as it fills, tell us how long the job runs. Hire past the 7 days is a daily rate, and a standing swap arrangement is a different conversation to a one off hire, so set up a trade account rather than booking online for that.

Big clear outs where volume is the whole problem. Retail fit outs, warehouse clears, a full house plus the yard.

Use
The door on the back makes this bin easy to walk into, and that is exactly how people get caught out on it. The weight allowance is the trap on this size. 2 tonnes across twelve cubic metres is not a lot per cubic metre. Fill it with anything dense and it will be over the limit while it still looks half empty, and the excess is charged by the tonne. Heavy loads belong in small bins, and the sizes page explains why.

12m³ or 9m³

Sigma runs seven skip bin sizes in Brisbane, from 2m³ up to 12m³.

9m³ Sigma Bin

9m³ Sigma Bin

If the truck cannot get the room, the 9m³ is the biggest bin that will realistically land on a suburban block, and on a bulky light load it does most of the same work.
