Light Builders Skips

A light builders skip takes renovation waste with none of the heavy material in it.

Renovation Waste Skip Bin Hire in Brisbane

Renovation waste skip bin hire in Brisbane splits into exactly two bins and this is the cheaper one. A 6m³ light builders bin across Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast costs less than the same bin with rubble allowed in it, because plasterboard and timber are lighter than brick and they do not go to the same place.

One question decides which bin you need

Is there soil, brick, concrete or tile going in?

If the answer is no, this is your bin. If the answer is yes, even a little, you want builders and mixed heavy and it is worth booking it properly rather than hoping nobody notices. A load gets classified at the tip, not in the driveway, and a light bin with rubble through it gets reclassified and charged at the higher rate anyway.

One question decides which bin you need

What goes in and what does not

What goes in a light builders skip

Plasterboard offcuts, untreated timber, insulation, carpet and underlay, packaging and light renovation strip out

Framing timber and offcuts. Plasterboard and gyprock. Insulation batts. Kitchen cabinetry, benchtops and the old sink. Carpet and underlay. Skirting, architraves and doors. Roof battens and sheeting. Packaging from anything new going in.

What keeps it out

Concrete, brick, tile, soil, asbestos sheeting, and anything on the sitewide banned list

Soil and turf. Bricks and blocks. Concrete of any kind, including a slab you broke up yourself. Floor and wall tile, including the bed of mortar it came off with. Pavers. Rock and gravel.

That list is not arbitrary. Every item on it is dense, and density is what this bin is priced against.

Why it costs less than the heavy bin

Because it is a volume problem, not a weight problem.

A light builders load fills a 6m³ long before it reaches its 1.25 tonnes. Timber, plasterboard and insulation take up a lot of room and weigh very little, so the tip charges by what it is rather than by what it weighs, and a good share of it can be recovered. A construction and demolition recycling facility, where timber, plasterboard and metal are separated

The heavy bin is the reverse. Rubble is dense, it hits the tonnage while the bin still looks half empty, and it goes to landfill where the Queensland waste levy is charged by the tonne. Same size bin, different job, different price.

Why it costs less than the heavy bin

The strip out, done properly

The most common light builders job in Brisbane is a bathroom or a kitchen coming out, and the trap in both is that they start light and end heavy.

Cabinetry, benchtop, doors and framing are all light. Then the tiles come off the wall, and the moment the tiles go in the bin it is no longer a light builders load.

Two ways to handle it. Keep the tile out and take it to the tip yourself, which is fine if it is a small bathroom. Or book the heavy bin from the start and put everything in one place, which is what most people end up doing on a kitchen and bathroom together.

Which size suits a light builders load

4m3 through to 9m3. A bathroom or a kitchen strip out usually fits a 6m3

Go a size up if you are between two. Light material is exactly the case where the extra cubic metre gets used, and a second delivery costs more than the gap between two sizes.
