Green Waste Skip Bin Hire in Brisbane
Clean green waste does not go to landfill. It gets mulched. A green waste composting facility, where it is mulched rather than landfilled, which is why it is cheaper than a general bin Because it never reaches a landfill, it never attracts the Queensland waste levy, and that saving is what you see in the price. A 4m³ of green waste across Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast costs noticeably less than the same bin filled with mixed household rubbish, and the levy is the whole reason why.
What goes in and what does not
Grass clippings, hedge trimmings, branches, palm fronds, tree stumps, leaves and soil free garden waste
Branches, prunings, hedge clippings, lawn, leaves, palm fronds, weeds and garden beds. Anything that grew in the yard and is still just plant material.
Soil, turf with dirt attached, treated timber, plastic pots, bagged waste, and anything that is not a plant
This is a shorter list than people expect and it catches the same things every time. Soil and turf, because dirt is not plant matter and it is heavy. Treated pine, sleepers and painted timber, because the treatment is the problem. Pots, bags, hose, netting, stakes and irrigation fittings, because plastic does not mulch.
Tree trunks and stumps are the exception worth asking about. Big rounds and stumps are handled separately from ordinary prunings and they carry dirt in the root ball. Tell us before you book. It is not a refusal, it changes the price and sometimes the bin.
One bag of rubbish costs you the whole load
This is the rule that matters on this stream and it is stricter than on any other bin we drop off.
One bag of household rubbish turns the whole bin into a general waste load and it gets charged as one
The mulching facility will not take a load with rubbish through it, so the whole bin gets reclassified and sent to landfill instead, where it is weighed and the levy is charged on everything in it. Not on the bag. On the bin.
It is not a fine and it is not us being difficult. It is what happens at the gate. The practical version: if you are clearing a yard and there is an old chair, a length of hose and two bags of household rubbish going out at the same time, book general waste instead and put the lot in one bin. It costs more per bin and it costs less than a reclassified load.
Which size suits a green load
3m3 through to 9m3. Green waste is bulky and light, so go a size up rather than a size down
Green waste is the lightest stream we handle and it holds an enormous amount of air. Branches will not pack down, so a bin looks full a long time before it is. Buy volume here, not weight.
Cut branches down before they go in and stack them along the length of the bin. A bin loaded properly holds close to twice what a bin loaded in armfuls holds, and on this stream that is the difference between one bin and two.
Book a green waste bin
If there is any doubt about whether your load counts as clean green, ask before the bin turns up rather than after it is tipped.
